If you were born outside the United States, you can be granted U.S. citizenship through naturalization. Naturalization is the process by which U.S. legal residents become citizens. You may qualify for naturalization if you have been a permanent resident for at least five years or three years if you are married to a U.S. citizen. Minor children are not eligible for naturalization. Among other requirements an applicant must have good moral character, excellent command of the English language and familiarity with U.S. civics and history.
